Planningalerts.org.au now covers all Boroondara applications

March 10th, 2010 Peter No comments

The site planningalerts.org.au now covers all planning applications lodged in Boroondara. Planningalerts.org.au is a site where you can enter your address and sign up to be emailed whenever an application occurs near your house. You can set how close the distance is. Below is a map of recent applications lodged within 2km of Hawthorn Station.

Westhawthorn.org helped out by writing some software called a scraper to automatically get the applications from the Boroondara website. I’d recommend checking out planningalerts.org.au. A really big thanks to planningalerts.org.au for producing such a useful service!

Monash Hospital Proposal

February 22nd, 2010 Peter No comments

We’ve had word that the Monash IVF facility is relocating from East Melbourne  and is considering an existing four storey building at 50 Burwood Road Hawthorn (opposite St James park). No external physical buildings, additions or works changes are proposed. The proposal will be for a 31 bed maternity ward, consulting suites, operating theatres and ancillary shops on the ground flour (chemist, pathology etc.).

The main concern would be the track record of hospitals that border residential areas expanding into those areas. Cabrini hospital is an example of this. Do we want a hospital precinct in this area? Comments please.

New planningalerts website

December 21st, 2009 Peter No comments

A new website that allows subscribers to be notified on new planning applications has been launched. This looks to be very promising. Once Boroondara is on line then this should provide an excellent service for West Hawthorn residents. From their blog:

PlanningAlerts.org.au is a free service which searches as many planning authority websites as it can find and emails you details of applications near you. The aim of this to enable shared scrutiny of what is being built (and knocked down) in peoples’ communities.

PlanningAlerts.org.au is brought to you by the OpenAustralia Foundation with financial assistance from the Australian Government 2.0 Taskforce. It was adapted for Australia by Matthew Landauer and Katherine Szuminska, and is based on the UK site PlanningAlerts.com, built by Richard Pope, Mikel Maron, Sam Smith, Duncan Parkes, Tom Hughes and Andy Armstrong.

Planning information on Boroondara website

August 31st, 2009 Peter No comments

The Boroondara Council has a new website and with it a new searchable online planning register including a map and links to relevant documents.  This is a huge improvement over the old excel spreadsheets, but really needs to go one step further and create an alert service so that residents can register their interest without having to manually check the website on a regular basis. Other councils have this facility and I am hoping that it is in the pipeline for Boroondara.

Amendment to Planning Scheme tonight

March 16th, 2009 Peter 5 comments

It has been almost a year to the date since the Boroondara council agreed to support their community in reducing over development in West Hawthorn by correcting the West Hawthorn Urban Design framework. Advice has now been received from Minister Madden and the council will consider whether to go ahead with the amendment based on the condition his department have set. See the agenda for details, but once again the Minister wants the removal of references to height levels in relation to specific sites in West Hawthorn.

Meeting agenda here.

The meeting of the Urban Planning Special Committee of the Boroondara City Council will be held at the HAWTHORN ROOM in the Hawthorn Town Hall 360 Burwood Road, Hawthorn
on MONDAY 16 MARCH 2009, commencing at 8.00pm

(The amendment is the third issue on the agenda)
